Koshoy-Korgon ancient fortress

Koshoi-Korgon is a fortress located in the center of the At-Bashy Valley. It was strategically located on the Silk Road between Kashgar and the Naryn region in Kyrgyzstan.

The city is rectangular in shape from 245 to 250 m. The height of the preserved walls is 4 to 8 m.

There are 60 towers around the perimeter: 19 in the north, 13 in the south, 17 in the east and 11 in the west. The walls and towers are made of large blocks of clay and long bricks. The wall is 7 to 9 m thick on the ground and 3 to 4 m in height.

On all sides of the city, 12 m away, there are pits, the walls of which were built after the soil was removed. There were one or four gates on either side of the citadel. Initially, it was supposed to be a bloody gateway to the city.

The east and west gates were built in 1375 during the Tamerlane invasions.

The archaeological material found on site can be found in a small, recently opened museum next to the fortress.

The fortress is located on the road between the village of At-Bashi and the caravanserail of Tash Rabat.
