Jailoo
Orto Syrt jailoo
Naryn Region • Kyrgyzstan • 3100 m
Orto Cyrt (or Orto-Syrt) jailoo is a hidden gem and one of the most enchanting high-altitude summer pastures (jailoos) in Kyrgyzstan's remote Ak-Talaa District, Naryn Region. Lying between the Borulu Pass and Kulak Ashuu Pass on the adventurous off-road route from Baetov to Tash Rabat, this expansive alpine meadow sits at the peaceful confluence of the Kalgakar and Akbeyit rivers. In summer (July–August), the vast green expanse comes alive with grazing herds of sheep, horses, and yaks, dotted with traditional white yurts of nomadic herder families—offering an authentic glimpse into Kyrgyz pastoral life far from the crowds.
What makes Orto Cyrt truly unforgettable is its dramatic natural setting amid the Baybiche Too mountains. From the jailoo, travelers are treated to breathtaking panoramic views, including the striking anthracite-colored cliff of Oynakdjar mountain rising imposingly in the distance. This dark, almost black rock face contrasts sharply with the bright green meadows and blue skies, creating a surreal, almost otherworldly backdrop that's perfect for photographers and anyone seeking raw mountain majesty.
The spot feels like a serene oasis after the rugged Terek Canyon and the climb over Borulu: crisp high-altitude air (around 3,000–3,200 m), wildflowers carpeting the ground, the gentle murmur of merging rivers, and endless rolling hills stretching toward snow-capped peaks. It's an ideal place to pause for a yurt stay, share tea with locals, take short riverside walks, or simply soak in the solitude and scale of Central Asia's untouched wilderness.
This remote jailoo embodies the timeless spirit of Kyrgyz nomadism—a peaceful, crowd-free interlude before the final push over Kulak Ashuu to the ancient Silk Road wonder of Tash Rabat. If you're exploring Kyrgyzstan's interior highlands, Orto Cyrt is an absolute must for its combination of natural drama, cultural immersion, and that unforgettable anthracite cliff view!
